Although I am no longer on the Council's Overview & Scrutiny Committee, I will be taking part in not one but two scrutiny reviews this year - so it's not going to be an immediate break from routine.
This weekend I need to take another look over and sign off the report for the last scrutiny review I chaired, on the Council's neighbourhood management function, which I will present to the Committee on July 28. I'll blog about some of the review recommendations nearer the time.
The two reviews that I am signed up for this year are one on support for carers and one on stray dogs - as it happens, both chaired by one of my Labour colleagues, Cllr Ray Dodds. I have a lot of time for Ray, who was a good Executive Member for the Environment when I was first elected to the Council back in 2002. He is certainly one of the most competent Executive Members (maybe even the best) I have seen on the Labour frontbench in the last six years - although there has not always been much competition.
I'm on my way to St.Alban's to visit my sister this weekend, as well as the two of my nieces that belong to her and also have a 30th birthday party for one of my university friends, Melanie, tomorrow. With a whole heap of dull housey stuff to get done over the weekend too, and my friend Annie coming round to see our new flat, I think I will be leaving the blog alone until next week.
